About Milwaukee - "The City of Festivals"

Located on the beautiful Lake Michigan and near the Kinnickinnic and Menomonee Rivers, Milwaukee offers a huge range of recreational water activities. Whether you're looking to enjoy a peaceful stroll or day on the beach, or something a bit more exciting like jet skiing, sailing, fishing or kayaking, Milwaukee will have you covered. The award-winning Lake Park is a favorite, offering great chances to play a round of golf, pedal down the paved bike paths, put in a game of volleyball, or to fly a kite. There's tons of scenic hiking options in the nearby forests and lakes as well.

Beyond Lake Park, there are more than a 140 other parks covering a total of 15,000 acres. While Milwaukee is home to a bustling urban core, it's far from a concrete jungle. Many neighborhoods host their own farmer's markets, where you can buy locally sourced produce, jams, coffee, and other foods. If you don't find the food you're looking for at a neighborhood farmer's market, make sure you check out the Milwaukee Public Market, which offers dozens of different specialty food vendors. The Public Market makes for a great quick lunch trip or in-depth taste bud tour. Whether you're looking for artisan cupcakes, or some of Wisconsin's famous cheeses, the Market offers a lot of delights.

Still not enough diversity for you? How about the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, which has three horticultural domes, each dedicated to one of three different climates. With one quick day trip you can explore a tropical jungle, a floral garden, and a desert oasis. Come night time and you can enjoy a spectacular light show.

There's also the Milwaukee Zoo, which is home to over 2,000 different animals, including reptiles, amphibians, mammals, fish, and birds. The Zoo sprawls over 200 acres, and is home to one of the largest bonobos populations in captivity. Polar bears are a popular attraction as well. In fact, the Milwaukee Zoo was one of the first facilities to successfully birth a polar bear in captivity.

Looking for an even more hands on experience? Check out Discovery World, which offers an array of interactive exhibits and experiences centered around science, technology, and conserving the Great Lakes. From some of the deepest lakes to the Milky Way, you can explore a variety of environments. You can create music on a Theramin and engage in a wide range of other activities.

A fan of jazz? Check out "Jazz in the Park" at Cathedral Park on most Thursdays.

Another popular place to visit is the Bay View. As you can guess, it offers quite the view, but it's also well-known for its rich history. This chic neighborhood is registered as a National Historic Place, and is home to a wide variety of establishments. From unique antique stores and arcades, to the green Oak Leaf Trail and Humboldt Park.

Milwaukee is also home to a variety of famous architectural structures. These include the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, as well as the Frederick C. Bogk house and four separate American System-Built Homes. Some of these famous architectural structures include Frank Lloyd Wright homes.

Milwaukee is also a happening college town, being home to seven different colleges and universities. There are major public universities, large private institutions, and smaller liberal arts colleges.

On the whole, the many opportunities around Milwaukee mean that just about anyone can find something that they will enjoy.
