Omaha is known as having some of the most friendly residents that you can find. It is small enough to be a tight knit community where anyone you talk to might be friends with someone you know.
That might be one of the reasons why numerous multi-millionaires including Warren Buffett continue to call Omaha home. The city's reputation for steak also doesn't hurt. There are numerous excellent steakhouses around town including Brother Sebastian's, The Drover, Johnny's Italian Steakhouse, and Gorat's (Warren Buffett's favorite).
Nebraska is largely an agricultural state with livestock comprising 2/3 of Nebraska's farm income. Most of that comes from beef (obviously) but hogs are also an important contributor as well as chicken, sheep, lamb, and turkey. Corn is the most important crop with much of it going toward feeding the livestock, but other important crops include soybeans, wheat, hay, sugar beats, and potatoes.
You can find all this and a lot more at the Omaha Farmers Market and the restaurant menus which feature locally sourced food.
But all of this agricultural pride isn't just present in the dining scene. Nebraskans love rooting for the Cornhuskers college football team. They don't call Nebraska the Cornhusker state for nothing! Sports bars get packed and people all across the state don red clothing in honor of the teams color on gameday. Memorial Stadium, the Huskers homefield, becomes the 3rd biggest city in Nebraska on gameday and every game has been sold out since 1962.
If sports aren't your thing, Omaha has a trendy downtown vibe with unique shops, hip bars, nice restaurants, and all of the feels of big city life. You can find plenty of options for a night out.
Perhaps one of the city's best kept secrets is the Henry Doorly Zoo which is considered the best zoo in America. It hosts the largest geodesic dome in the country as well as the biggest indoor rainforest. You can see just about any kind of animal that you're interested in here.
Getting around town is pretty easy. Pretty much anything you want to see or do is within 20 minutes from A to B. Traffic isn't bad on the interstate even at rush hour.
Omaha is also attracting a lot of entrepreneurs in creative and technology industries. The city forms part of the Silicon Prairie, which is a take on its big brother, Silicon Valley in California. Silicon Prairie has gained so much traction that news outlets such as Silicon Prairie News and conferences like The Big Omaha have been created around this movement.
