One of the defining characteristics of Charlotte is its age. The area that is now Charlotte, NC was first settled in 1755, making it a very old city with a lot of history. Another thing you'll notice is all the trees, and the city is planting more every day with the goal of having 50% of the city under tree cover by the year 2050. Talk about going "green"!
But the future holds a lot more than just more trees. It's the 3rd fastest growing city of its population size in the U.S. and constantly wins awards for its high quality of living. Living in Charlotte puts you in proximity of beaches, mountains, and everything in between including wilderness, lakes, and other large cities.
Most people in Charlotte are NASCAR fans over any other sport. The NASCAR Hall of Fame is located in the city and the Charlotte Motor Speedway is right next door in Concord, NC.
Neighborhoods
In Charlotte, downtown is actually called Uptown probably due to its elevation. Uptown sits a little higher than the rest of the city, so you actually have to travel up to get there. Hence the designation "Uptown" instead of "Downtown".
Charlotte is shaped like a wagon wheel with Uptown at the center of the city, and streets extending outward from it like spokes in a wheel.
NoDa is where you'll find a lot of nightlife entertainment including bars, restaurants, and art galleries. It's located at the corner of North David and 36th Street.
