About Baltimore - "Charm City"

Baltimore, Maryland

Aptly nicknamed the "charm city", there's a lot to see and do in Baltimore owing to its culture, people, and entertainment. There's a prospering arts scene, plenty of unique festivals, and numerous restaurants, bars, and clubs.

Arts

The city is home to the Baltimore Arts Museum, the Baltimore Arts Festival, and many talented up-and-coming artists at the Baltimore School For The Arts. If you think of America as the canvas, then you can think of Baltimore as the paint.

Food

The Lexington Market is the heart of the city. It is the world's longest running market, and has been in continuous operation since 1782. The Lexington Market is a great place to enjoy fresh seafood, fruit, vegetables, artisan baked goods, fantastic meats, and prepared meals. If you'd prefer to eat fish of the sea, Baltimore is especially well-known for its steamed blue crabs.

Power Plant Live! Is among the city's top dining and dancing destinations. More a complex than a single restaurant, Power Plant Live! hosts twelve unique restaurants and bars. The complex also regularly puts on a wide variety of events, including battles of the bands, birthday extravaganzas, concerts, and other performances by top-notch artists.

Inner Harbor

The Inner Harbor is a great place to take a casual evening walk or an early morning jog. Harbor Place is packed with a wide variety of great restaurants and shops. You can also take a tour of the historic USS Constellation there.

The Inner Harbor is home to the National Aquarium, which houses more than 17,000 fish, birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles. Last year, the National Aquarium opened a new blacktip reef exhibit which emulates an Indo-Pacific reef, and is home to more than 700 sea animals. It also houses 20 blacktip reef sharks, hence its name.

Weather

Weather-wise, the late springs and summers can get "Southern" humid and hot. The winters rarely see much snow, but when a snowstorm is on the horizon, the city will often be whipped up into a panic regardless of whether a heavy snowfall turns up. Don't be surprised if schools take a day off if snow looks like a possibility.

Neighborhoods

Baltimore is a well-rounded city with plenty of unique neighborhoods. Hampden is a favorite among hipsters and artists, while Guildford is known for being swanky, and Mt. Washington features cute bungalow homes that are great for families. There are a wide variety of suburbs that are convenient to the city and are worth visiting as well. Need to get away from the big city? Annapolis is less than an hour away, and offers a great small town ocean vibe. It's also home to Navy base.
