Little Rock is a very clean city. Forbes named it the 2nd cleanest city in the U.S. in 2011. Kiplinger has called it the best metropolitan area to live among those with a population of less than 1,000,000. Outside magazine has called it one of the best overall cities in the U.S.
The food might not be the healthiest, but it sure does taste good. You can find all your deep-fried favorites and comfort food galore.
Walking off the calories wont be difficult. The aptly named Big Dam Bridge is the longest pedestrian bridge in the U.S. It connects 14 miles of trails that you can walk or bike between Little Rock and North Little Rock.
If you want to get outside of town, Pinnacle Mountain State Park is a good place to go to a festival, have a picnic, or go hiking, biking, or horseback riding. You can also visit the Arkansas Arboretum, canoe or kayak down the river, go rock climbing, fishing, take a hay ride, or even have a nighttime "star party". All this on a single mountain!
And if that's not enough, the Ozark Mountains are full of natural bridges, caves, rolling hills, lookout points, and hiking trails to see it all.
If you look close enough, you might even sight the "Fouke Monster", also known as the "boggy creek monster". He has been sighted all across the state of Arkansas over the past 60 years.
The summers get pretty hot and humid so locals like to take advantages of all of the lakes, rivers and streams nearby to stay cool. That also means float trips. All you need for a float trip is an inner tube, some friends, and a few cold ones. It's a relaxing way to spend the day with loved ones as the current floats you down the water while you take in the scenery.
Another favorite past-time in Little Rock is geocaching. Geocaching is where you use a GPS to locate hidden treasure left by the last person to discover it before you. When you find it, you can take it and leave something else of your own to replace it. There are over 150 cache sites located along the Arkansas Great River Road.
Many people in Arkansas live in small farming communities where hunting is a way of life. If you hear a gunshot in the distance, chances are someone just caught dinner. In Arkansas, guns are viewed as just another tool used to put food on the table.
