About Manchester - "The Queen City"

Geography

Manchester is around 40 mins from the East coast. A few of the most popular coastal destinations is Hampton Beach which is also a state park. Here, you can go fishing, camping, or attend a concert at the amphitheater. For a less touristy and populated spot, try North Hampton.

But New Hampshire is known more for the mountains than the coast. The state has 48 mountains with peaks above 4,000 feet in altitude. The tallest one is Mount Washington which offers a view of over a hundred miles that stretches into Canada.

Some of the best scenery can be seen from the road as well. Route 12 is ranked as one of the most beautiful drives in the U.S. But know that traffic on I-93 can be very heavy.

Health

The state of New Hampshire is listed as the best in the country in quality of health care, and is the 3rd most healthy state. It's also one of the most safest places to live behind only Maine and Vermont - its closet neighbors!

Weather

Manchester is an ideal place to be in the fall. A few popular spots to enjoy the spectacular views are Miller State Park, Pack Monadnock Mountain, and Dublin Lake.

In the winter, Manchester receives around 60" of snow. The amount of snowfall makes for some great skiing. The McIntyre Ski Area, located on the north side of town, is a popular skiing destination. In addition to skiing, you can also find great spots for tubing and snowboarding. Just keep in mind that you only have about 5 hours to enjoy it during the day as the winter days are very short in Manchester.

Farmers Market

During the warmer months of June through October, the Manchester Farmers Market features over 25 vendors offering a variety of meat, produce, flowers, and baked foods.

Shopping

To find everything else you might need, try South Willow Street or the Mall of New Hampshire, depending on if you're looking for charming boutique shops or the big name stores.

Perhaps the best part of shopping in New Hampshire is that there's no sales tax. People come from all the neighboring states to take advantage of this.

Education

The city can feel crowded during the start and end of the school year due to the thousands of students that attend the 11 colleges and universities located in town.
