Billings is growing rapidly and is actually the most rapidly growing city in Montana. It doesn't have the same big city feel as other large cities across the U.S. Billings is more like a small town, but in a big way. Despite the small-town feel, Billings has pull of any large city. There's a flourishing art and culture scene with lots of options for entertainment, dining, and family-friendly activities.
The performance theatres host live shows any day of the week, improv comedy clubs bring comedians into town at least every other week, and it's hard to find a more superior steak than you'll find in Billings. You'll enjoy the modern new restaurants which offer menu items that include locally sourced options. Kids will enjoy the indoor and outdoor water park, plentiful sports leagues, and the many parks including a trampoline park, skate park, roller rink, ice skating, and festivals. There are over 20 festivals held in Billings each year!
Outside the city there's no shortage of hiking, biking, skiing, hunting and fishing options as well. Custer Gallatin National Forest and Yellowstone National Park are both only a few hours drive from Billings.
Be sure to wear layered clothing as the weather can change quickly from snow or rain, to warm and sunny. The summers aren't long so locals take advantage of every minute of nice weather.
The different neighborhoods throughout the city have their own distinct personalities. On the southern side of town is an older and a more diverse neighborhood. South Park hosts most of the festivals throughout the year. For a more upscale and trendy part of town, check out the Bottom Westend Historic District which also contains some of Billings' oldest mansions. Midtown is more densely populated and is considered to be the downtown area, which is also the fastest growing part of town.
