Although Georgia may be the Peach State, there are fewer peaches grown in this state compared to South Carolina or California. But Atlanta does show its pride when it comes to peaches as you'll notice in the street names and business names as you drive around town. While this is all "peachy", one thing to take seriously is the pollen. Even if you don't have allergies, the pollen in Atlanta can make you feel like you have the flu.
Aside from the peaches and pollen, Atlanta has a lot of tree cover for such a large city. Once upon a time Atlanta was known as "The City in a Forest". This is evident from views from above like you get at the top of Stone Mountain.
Atlantans a well-educated and single. According to the Daily Beast, Atlanta is the number one on its list of "Best Cities to Find a Date in 2012." The numbers favor men looking for women, as single women outnumber single men. And chances are that if you're from out of town, then you have that in common because most people who live in Atlanta are transplants.
If you like farmers markets and festivals then you'll also share that in common with folks in Atlanta as well. You'll find farmers markets all over town, as well as ethnic restaurants, food trucks, and fine dining. Atlanta holds seasonal festivals year-round ranging from art and music festivals to beer and food festivals.
But be careful where you wander around town. Atlanta is the 8th most dangerous city in America. Not all neighborhoods are bad though. Most of the crimes are property crimes and auto theft.
If you do find yourself in the thick of it, don't expect to make a quick getaway on the highways. In other cities, highways are used for going faster. In Atlanta, the highways are used for making excuses to be late for dreaded occasions. In fact, where I-285 and I-85 meet is nicknamed "spaghetti junction" for a reason. Avoid it at all costs at rush hour.
And if you're flying out of town, give yourself plenty of time to get to the airport. Hartsfield-Jackson is the busiest airport in America. It is recommended that you get to the airport 2 hours before lift off. It's the price you pay for traveling from Atlanta where traveling for vacation is much cheaper, and many major cities are a short flight away.
But if you're flying into Atlanta, it's hard to beat the shopping. Atlanta is shopping heaven. There's a lot of charming boutique shops and outlet malls. People from all over the South come to Atlanta to shop. It's one of the reasons why Atlanta was recently named as "The Best Place in America to Start a Business" and the "Top City for Young Entrepreneurs". But if a reliable 9-5 job is more your thing, Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines, UPS and Home Depot are all headquartered in Atlanta, just to name a few.
