Bridgeport is also known as the Park City because it has over 1,300 acres of public space in addition to the larger recreational places like Seaside Park and Pleasure Beach.
The present mayor of Bridgeport was elected in 2015. His name is Joseph Ganim, and he also served as a mayor from 1991 to 2003. Ganim made the most surprising comeback in political history after he was convicted of corruption charges in a pay-for-play scandal which ended his 5th term. Ganim accepted bribes in exchange for city contracts. After serving 7 years behind bars, Ganim clawed his way back into City Hall due to the former mayor's unpopularity.
The Black Rock community organizes a street festival in the neighbourhood every summer to decorate and race beds on wheels. The original idea to race furniture pieces pinewood derby style was considered too unsafe, leading to the more clever bed races.

Bridgeport is home to the oldest amusement park in America. The most famous ride is the wooden Boulder Dash roller coaster which is rated as the top wooden roller coaster in the world. There's also a water park with free admission.
Connecticut is known for ghost spotting and is prominently featured in Hollywood movies as such.

The deer, not so much. Every year there are over 18,000 deer killed in Connecticut. So be careful on I-84 and pay attention to the road signs.
